Last night, the Reading Lately IRL book club met to discuss our May selection, The Women by Kristin Hannah. “Men lie and they die,” a fabulous line from the book, was echoed more than a few times throughout our discussion. The general consensus seemed to be this was a favorite book club choice so far, so if you still haven’t read it, we all highly recommend you do! If you’d like to follow along with our book club on IG, you can find us at @ReadingLatelyBC.
If you’re looking for the perfect gift for the book lover in your life, might I suggest the Book Club Homesick candle pictured above.
Our June Book is The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters!
I anticipate this will be another emotional read that leads to rich discussion, though we are probably in need of something light soon. If you’ve read The Berry Pickers, let us know what you thought in the comments!
(Description from Amazon) A four-year-old Mi’kmaq girl goes missing from the blueberry fields of Maine, sparking a mystery that will haunt the survivors, unravel a family, and remain unsolved for nearly fifty years
July 1962. A Mi’kmaq family from Nova Scotia arrives in Maine to pick blueberries for the summer. Weeks later, four-year-old Ruthie, the family’s youngest child, vanishes. She is last seen by her six-year-old brother, Joe, sitting on a favorite rock at the edge of a berry field. Joe will remain distraught by his sister’s disappearance for years to come.
In Maine, a young girl named Norma grows up as the only child of an affluent family. Her father is emotionally distant, her mother frustratingly overprotective. Norma is often troubled by recurring dreams and visions that seem more like memories than imagination. As she grows older, Norma slowly comes to realize there is something her parents aren’t telling her. Unwilling to abandon her intuition, she will spend decades trying to uncover this family secret.

Good Material by Dolly Alderton — Sally Rooney readers will love it
Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera — one of the most unique thrillers I’ve read in a long time
Safe and Sound by Laura McHugh — a phenomenal small town mystery
