While Goodreads scores certainly aren’t everything, our May book has an average score of 4.68 with nearly 300,000 reviews…safe to say it is pretty universally loved.
Our May Book is The Women by Kristin Hannah!
You may recall I read and raved about this book back in February. The Women tells the story of twenty-year-old Frances “Frankie” McGrath. In 1965, when her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.
(from Goodreads) As green and inexperienced as the men sent to Vietnam to fight, Frankie is over-whelmed by the chaos and destruction of war. Each day is a gamble of life and death, hope and betrayal; friendships run deep and can be shattered in an instant. In war, she meets—and becomes one of—the lucky, the brave, the broken, and the lost.
But war is just the beginning for Frankie and her veteran friends. The real battle lies in coming home to a changed and divided America, to angry protesters, and to a country that wants to forget Vietnam.
From the very first page, Hannah sucked me in. It’s one of those cancel-all-your-plans until you finish reading sort of stories. I cried on and off constantly throughout the book, and I cannot wait to discuss with my IRL book club friends.
