Reading Lately Book Club: October Pick
must be the season of the witch! plus a few more book recs
Our October Book is Weyard by Emilia Hart!
Historical fiction meets supernatural. A story of female power and resilience, Weyward intertwines three stories of different women throughout history: Altha in the 1600s, Violet in the 1940s, and Kate in the present day.
As each of them faces obstacles because of their gender, each also has access to a mysterious power that comes from nature.
If you’re behind on past Reading Lately BC reads, you can find them all on my Amazon Storefront. And you can follow along on Instagram.
Reading Lately
If you’re a seasonal mood reader, most of these need to be on your fall TBR. And for my romance readers, a necessary pre-order.
The New Couple in 5B by Lisa Unger
A couple inherits an apartment with a spine-tingling past in this popcorn thriller. Perfect for fans of Riley Sager’s Lock Every Door.
The Sequel by Jean Hans Korelitz
The aptly named sequel to the bestselling thriller, The Plot. Definitely make sure you’ve read that first.
The Night We Lost Him by Laura Dave
More of a family drama with mystery than a thriller. Estranged siblings discover their father has been keeping a secret for over fifty years, one that may have been fatal.
Red River Road by Anna Downes
The twists here had me reeling. A woman desperate to discover what happened to her sister on a solo road trip through the Australian outback.
Is She Really Going Out With Him by Sophie Cousens
Columnist Anna Appleby has left her love life behind after a painful divorce. But her office rival is vying for her column, and so in a desperate attempt to keep her job, Anna finds herself pitching a unique seven dates, all found offline, chosen by her children. But when a romantic connection appears where she least expected it, will she be brave enough to take a chance on love?
I felt giddy the entire time reading this heartfelt, adorable story. Work place rivals to lovers? Check. Forced proximity? Check. Incredible witty banter? Check! Will might now be a top five favorite book boyfriend. Fans of Annabel Monaghan's Summer Romance will eat this book up. I certainly did. It will be on shelves in November.

Second Generation: Hungarian and Jewish Classics Reimagined for the Modern Table by Jeremey Salomon
And for something a little different, if you’re looking for a new cookbook, I highly recommend Second Generation: Hungarian and Jewish Classics Reimagined for the Modern Table by Jeremey Salomon. Jeremy Salamon is the James Beard–nominated chef and owner of the beloved Agi’s Counter in Brooklyn, a 2022 pick for Bon Appétit’s Best New Restaurants list and a 2023 Michelin Bib Gourmand award recipient. And like me, he is also second generation Jewish Hungarian in America.
I had the pleasure of hearing him speak last night at Now Serving DTLA and I cannot wait to cook my way through his book.
Watching Lately
Like so many others, my long dormant crush on Adam Brody has been reawakened watching Nobody Wants This on Netflix. Starring him and Kristen Bell, this show is a rom-com lovers dream. Insane chemistry, I’ve been giggling my way through the 10 episodes.
