the one where she goes to Coachella
but had to be back in her apartment in time for Succession at 6pm PST because priorities
Last weekend, I celebrated LA’s national holiday known as Coachella Weekend 1. Having never been before and not being an especially great fan of music festivals, I was a bit apprehensive going in. To be clear, I did not actually attend THE Coachella music festival, but rather a weekend’s worth of parties and adjacent events including the 818 Outpost, Nylon House, Neon Carnival, Soho Desert House, and Revolve Festival to name a few.
I am, frankly, mortified by how much I loved every second of it.
I really never feel comfortable referring to myself as an “influencer,” but this was certainly one weekend where I leaned in. HARD. There are lots more posts for specific events and a highlight reel of the whole weekend on my instagram, which I encourage you to click through if you’re curious about what an influencer’s Coachella weekend looks like. It’s silly, really. Just so many extravagant parties with well known DJs and performers, where you get sent home with gift bags full of branded merch and enough makeup to open your own Sephora.
Obviously not complaining, and if given the opportunity again, I will absolutely be there next year. But we can all acknowledge this is weird, right? Like yes, I understand the point is that people of “influence” are all now toting around and sharing about said products (like I am here). But still, it’s all very Michael Scott / SWAG / stuff-we-all-get. It’s silllllllyyyyyyy.
Watching Lately
I don’t like to include spoilers in case anyone is behind so this is all very general, but here’s what I’ve watched over the last 2 weeks…
Ted Lasso — this week’s (over an) hour long episode finally did me in. Unclear if it was Coachella exhaustion induced, but cue the waterworks for this one. My favorite episode so far this season.
The Last Thing He Told Me — I had the opportunity to attend the premiere for this book-to-screen adaptation by Laura Dave starring Jennifer Garner last week. I wasn’t a huge fan of the book and was curious to see how the show would be. I didn’t dislike episode one, but I don’t think I’ll be prioritizing the series in my viewing schedule.
Succession — I am loving every single second of this season. Every petty quip. Every not-so-subtle smirk. Watching the show is one thing, reading all the tweets after is another. But it’s all part of a balanced Sunday night. Is it 6pm yet? I need more. We all need more.
Barry - the fourth and final season is here and if anything bad happens to Noho Hank I will simply never recover. Going from Succession straight into Barry on a Sunday night is emotionally … a lot… but I refuse to have anything spoiled for me and so here I am. Clearing my schedule once again.
Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret — one of the best movies I’ve seen so far in 2023. A book to screen adaptation of Judy Blume’s seemingly timeless story. It was heartfelt, sweet, and full of nostalgia. And Rachel McAdams is just so unbelievably charming. The film comes out in theaters on April 28th, and I really hope you’ll go see it.
Also still watching YellowJackets and Abbott Elementary.
Reading Lately
I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump since I finished Happy Place by Emily Henry (out April 25th). But as of this morning, I’m about a third of the way into Abby Jimenez’s Yours Truly (another contemporary romance).
According to Emily Henry + GoodReads, it is “a novel of terrible first impressions, hilarious second chances, and the joy in finding your perfect match.” I am, so far, enjoying this story; it’s sweet, though I can feel the fake-dating trope about to hit, and I don’t want it. I never want it. Give me anything but fake-dating, I beg.
Eating + Drinking Lately
The weather in LA this past week has been magical. Summer basically arrived early and — as a July Cancer — I’m a summer girl. To that point, “it’s summer and I’m a summer girl” has become my mantra, so consider this a warning. I cannot be held accountable for my actions going forward. It’s all vibes from here til Labor Day.
In the spirit of summer, I’m currently making a spreadsheet all the happy hours in my vicinity, so more on that later. If you have an LA HH I should add to the doc, please share with the class in the comments. But for now, here are a few noteworthy places I’ve been in the last couple weeks…
Melanie Wine Bar — a really lovely neighborhood spot, they do half priced glasses of wine daily from 5-6pm and half priced bottles on Mondays…yes, this spot is on the Happy Hour spreadsheet
Nic’s On Beverly — I attended a dinner with Hex Clad here last week and everything was delicious. Plus the patio is beautiful. Definitely planning to come back
The Rose Venice — Just enjoyed a girls night out here. We all got espresso martinis and had mixed feeling about the vegan whipped cream on top. No mixed feelings about the rigatoni; that was great
Products Lately
Super Goop Sunscreen — by some miracle, even while wearing skimpy clothes with weird cuts in the desert for 3 days, I never burned. Credit where credit is due, this sunscreen
Revolve Festival Outfits — going to Revolve Festival meant they supplied me with several fits for the occasion and am already planning to wear this lavender set (pictured below) again when I see Taylor Swift in August
Beachwaver Curling Iron — The Tarte x Beachwaver Glam- Chella event last weekend convinced me once again that this curling iron is a summer essential. Truly SO easy to use, it creates bouncy big beachy curls
Made By Mary Floating Pearl Necklace — this necklace has officially been added to my gold necklace stack so catch me basically living in it. It’s delicate and dainty and I adore it
Melie Bianco Vegan Bag — You are about to see me holding this bag in every photo all summer long, sorry in advance
Quay Big Time Sunglasses — gifted from Revolve Festival, these Quay frames are my new go-tos
Steve Madden White Cowboy Boots — the wardrobe MVP of Coachella weekend
If you read this far, once again, I appreciate you. I hope you’ll forgive any typos; I swear I still have dirt in my eyes from the desert. As always you can find me on Instagram and TikTok. Come say hi, and thanks for reading, and if you feel so inclined, let your friends know they should subscribe, too!
