It’s my birthday and I’ll strike if I want have to!
Okay so full disclosure, my birthday was yesterday, but icymi SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild), a union of which I am a proud member, went on strike this past week after the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) failed to negotiate a fair deal, and our contract expired Wednesday night.
SAG-AFTRA’s national board unanimously voted to order a strike, which membership — with nearly 98% of voters in favor — had previously authorized. We now join our brothers and sisters in the WGA (Writers Guild of America), who been on strike since May 2, on the picket line. The strike is about so many things — AI, residuals for streaming, and minimums to name a few.
Friday morning — Day 1 of the SAG-AFTRA strike — I picketed outside Netflix for a few hours. We are all hoping the AMPTP comes back to the negotiating table soon in good faith, but until then, I know how I’ll be getting my daily steps in.
Back to my birthday, which was yesterday...I spent the day at the beach with family and friends before dancing the night away at Midnights: A Taylor Swift and Friends dance party…so kind of my absolute perfect day. Check out my stories on IG for a few videos of me living my absolute best life. Screaming the bridge to Cruel Summer is good for your health actually, and doctors need be talking about that more I think.
The below photo was taken the night before my birthday** at a NYX Cosmetics party and really set the vibe for the weekend and the week ahead.
**Yes, I realize that I have turned into one of those people who makes celebrating their birthday into a week long thing (don’t worry, I haven’t reached the point of dragging it out all month.) But life is stressful, work especially given…oh yeah…there isn’t much at the moment, and it felt so lovely to spend a week eating little cakes and giggling with my friends. Not that we can’t or don’t do that on non-birthday days — we absolutely do — but I felt v loved and appreciate everyone who made time and wanted to celebrate with me.
I’m seeing the Barbie movie on Wednesday, and two weeks from then, I’ll finally attend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. And then tbh I guess I’ll have to find another reason to get up in the morning since all the things I’ve been looking forward to for almost a year will be over. JK! Except not at all. It’s fine, I’m fine.
