Did I mean to send this last week? Yes. But I’m having a bit of trouble saying goodbye to summer if I’m being honest. With temperatures still near 100 in LA, it just doesn’t quite feel like Meg Ryan Fall yet. And still dear friends, I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address. iykyk and if you don’t, you need to watch You’ve Got Mail immediately. I did make pumpkin bread this week so that’s something.
Anyway, to get to the point…
Our September Book Club pick is Just Another Missing Person by Gillian McAllister.
This multiple POV thriller from the author of the Reese’s Book Club Pick and the New York Times bestseller Wrong Place Wrong Time (one of my favorite books of 2022) has had the book club girlies up past their bedtimes to find out what happens.
Here’s a little spoiler free plot synopsis courtesy of goodreads:
22-year-old Olivia has been missing for one day…and counting. She was last seen on CCTV, entering a dead-end alley. And not coming back out again.
Julia, the detective heading up the search for Olivia, thinks she knows what to expect. A desperate family, a ticking clock, and long hours away from her husband and daughter. But she has no idea just how close to home this case is going to get.
Because the criminal at the heart of the disappearance has something she never expected. His weapon isn’t a gun, or a knife: it’s a secret. Her worst one. And her family's safety depends on one thing: Julia must NOT find out what happened to Olivia - and must frame somebody else for her murder.
If you find her, you will lose everything. What would you do?
If you read along this month, I look forward to hearing your thoughts on which twists you saw coming and what caught you totally off guard!
Also if you read my last post, you’ll know while I did read a good amount in August, I didn’t do a great job working through the books originally included on my monthly TBR. Went a bit off script, if you will. So I’m planning to circle back on some of those in the coming weeks. You can follow along on my IG, as I share daily what I’m reading on stories.
Great! I need a good read and to see mysteries who -dun-it crime done in different way to regulars on that shelf
I’m reading wrong place wrong time, ran out to bookstore to get it on your recommendation. It’s brilliant! about 1/3 through it dawned on me just how intricate the plotting—what she is doing—thrilling indeed
